The future of a country could be evaluated by the growth of the children.
Thus we praise them as the pillars of the future. We aim to set them on a noble place. Even we celebrate their births in a grand manner. Parents’ duties never end even after they give birth to a child. In this competitive world, it is the tremendous challenge of the parents to bring-up their children eligibly.
But, can every parent have a stern mind to overcome this challenge! According to this Plantation Sector, children are neglected with education, communication, cultures, language, games etc...
Poverty and agony entangled in their childhood. The parents have no time to bring-up their children as such they leave them in the crèches and compel to hurry to their duties. Their only intention is to earn money to survive in this struggling world. Neither could they spare time with their child’s happier nor crucial moments. Is that the changing government or the Politicians answerable to the above facts? Throughout we have blamed the Government and Politicians. But, the parents too are blamable to the downfall of this situation. It is evident that as parents they have not taken any interest to provide a proper basic education to their future generation. These children are the future heroes of tomorrow. If we lay a firm foundation to their present education system to nurture them only we can build-up a healthier and a prosperous generation in the Plantation Sector.
Social Aid Foundation and Plantation Pre-School Development Centre in Badulla district are giving their fullest co-operation from the past years to upgrade this abandoned society. There are various people like university students, Religious hands, working people, Businessmen etc. are all involved voluntarily in this service.
We had an opportunity of meeting one Mr. Kandeepan an ambitious youth at out office last week. He was speaking to us regarding the developments he wanted to make through his Social Aid Foundation in Badulla area to the needy children.
We strongly believe that if the Plantation children are provided with a good basic education, they will definitely come forward in life. For the last few years through the Social Aid Foundation and the Pre-School Development Centers we are voluntarily implementing Awareness Programmes among the Plantation Youth, Computer training, English, Sewing classes etc. too were taught and on completion, providing with them jobs through Job Banks. Now, the people who have worked throughout in the Plantation Sector will have a chance to enter into various new fields. So their title as Pluckers and Pluckers means Estate workers stage will be changed and they too will come-up in different fields. Our people always blame that they have been rejected. But, there is no truth in this, whereas we have created an atmosphere as such, because they always rely on others for each and everything and ultimately get cheated.
Plantation workers are very hard workers as well as very competent too. These Plantation youth can do anything if they plan everything properly. We have planned to implement 50 Pre-Schools in Badulla district shortly. Trained Teachers have been voluntarily agreed to take-up teaching in these Pre-Schools.
These Pre-schools in the Plantation sectors will give them a strong foundation to be fruitful in another 20 years time. We intend opening Community Centers in the Pre-schools. Through this, not only these people will benefited by employments, but other services too will be expedited. Initially these Pre-schools will start functioning at the Temples, Libraries like public buildings etc. A small amount will be recovered from the parents in this regard. This money will be utilized on making their uniforms and other connected expenses in this regard.
We are well aware that Tea is the main cash crop in Sri Lanka. The outsiders perhaps think that estate means, only tea fields and water falls. But they actually do not know the facts the Tamil speaking workers’ problems, agonies, stress etc. etc. they face. No one has taken any interest to bring these facts to light. Their histories and pathetic were buried.
